2011-2012: Freedom of Religion
The theme for 2011-2012 Finnish Churches for Justice and Peace is Freedom of Religion. During 2012 we will emphasize freedom of religion and refugees, or mainly focus on the human rights of those who flee because of religious persecution.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 18: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Over 200 million Christians in over 60 countries worldwide are persecuted, threatened and subjected to violence, imprisonment and death solely because they are Christians. Many members of various religious groups share the fate of Christians in states and societies where freedom of religion is not respected.
Join us in prayer in remembrance of those persecuted!
